About The Instructor
BRIAN BUCKRELL is a member of the Society of Canadian Artists and the Federation of Canadian Artists. He is also an elected member of the Ontario Society of Artists. Online Workshop Description
IT'S ALL ABOUT COMPOSITION
Strong composition creates visual impact and interest in our work. Yet, for many developing artists, the concept of composition is confusing. At its most basic, it is the arrangement of shapes intended to allow the viewer entry, direct their view to a spot of interest and hold their attention. This requires competency in linear and aerial perspectives. Effective perspective requires competency in drawing, values and colour.
This six-session Zoom workshop will focus on the fundamentals required– leading to a more effective understanding of composition to attract, direct and hold the viewer. Each Zoom session will be three hours long, notes will be sent, and sessions will be recorded for repeat viewing. Participants are encouraged to join a dedicated Facebook Group for sharing and commenting between sessions.
Here is a testimonial from Dixie Baum, who has attended and hosted several of Brian's workshops:
Before Brian became a painter, he was a university professor. His skill as a teacher really shows up in the way he organizes and presents information and the fun and encouraging learning environment he creates. He understands how people learn and what is essential for artists to know in order to become better painters. He presents condensed and foundational principals in a way that is easy to grasp and follows it up with painting exercises and demonstrations that make it crystal clear. I have taken several of his workshops and have been fortunate enough to take some workshops more than once. It’s easy to do given how much information is packed in. My painting and confidence improves each time. I am grateful for all I have learned, and I highly recommend his workshops.
