SUSAN WOOLGAR, ASA, is a signature member of the Alberta Society of Artists and has been exhibiting professionally since
1982. A graduate of the Alberta College of Art, this versatile artist is known for her lush and expressive landscapes
which show how she is influenced by water, skies, shadow and texture. Being proficient in several mediums, she has had
many solo shows and is represented by several galleries. Susan teaches classes and workshops and is in demand as a juror.
WATERCOLOR AND BEYOND is for artists of all levels who wish to hone their watercolor skills and/or try a new approach.
First Susan will demonstrate the different techniques in pure transparent watercolor, wet-into-wet, wet-into-dry, spatter,
resists, etc., fully exploring the manipulation of paint on paper. She will include information regarding color scales,
variations of primary colors and value scales allowing us to develop a wide range of chroma and tonal values.
We may
continue to work in traditional watercolor, with Susan's assistance, or experience a "new" approach utilizing an
underpainting of gouache on a fairly slick surface, allowing us to broaden our artistic repertoire. This technique was
originally developed by 19th Century British masters and yields surprisingly rich results while allowing us to highly
manipulte the surface, even wiping out sections to repaint. Inspired in this technique by Burton Silverman, Susan
will share her experience through demos, lectures, and individual assistance.
Please bring your own reference material of photos and/or sketches.
This workshop will be held at the Khartum Shriners Centre, 1155 Wilkes Avenue, Winnipeg.
