Sunshine, Shade and Shadows, a light and shadow experience, is for watercolor artists who wish to bring the visual
excitement of dramatic light and expressive shadows into their paintings. For all levels of experience, this five-day
workshop will explore a complete understanding of how light and shadow can be applied to create watercolor paintings of
outstanding excitement.
In this workshop, we will be lead into learning experiences on how light creates and forms objects, and most importantly,
how to translate this information with watercolor into visually exciting color for our paintings. We will then explore
and "see" shadows to come to a full understanding of the rules of shadows and how to translate them into paint. These
rules will be illustrated, demonstrated and we will apply them to the process of designing a good painting with
strong light and shadow. We will be challenged and motivated to have our thinking processes stimulate new creative
ideas. There
will be many "aha" moments and this workshop will change the way we see and paint forever.
Please bring photos and/or sketches for reference.
This workshop will be held at the Ramsay Community Centre, upper level, 1136 - 8 Street SE, Calgary.
