Workshop Description
“Capturing Personality in Pastel” workshop is designed for strong beginners or students who want to improve their pastel and portraiture skills. In this easy going and very informative 3 day workshop we will learn all the steps and techniques of painting a character portrait in pastel from reference materials. We will discuss the basic structure of the head and the face features, although this is not an anatomy class. Jane will also give us lots of tips on how to achieve a likeness in your portraiture and we will do some charcoal exercises in the first day.
Next day we'll dive into the painting character from the reference. We'll discuss good design, colour temperature and accurate drawing. Demo will be done for a portrait, but the principals apply for any subject matter. Using important blocks of painting, such as composition, value pattern, color scheme, texture and edges, we will bring our references to life. Good photos are essential: Jane will have lots of reference material from her world travels to share with us.
This is a Zoom workshop and will run a full 5 hours per day, and we will have a limit of 14 students so that we have lots of individual time with Jane. The workshop will include exercises, lectures and demos as well as time to paint with Jane’s assistance. We start at 10:00 am Mountain Time until 12:30. Then a short lunch break and we resume at 1:00 to 3:30. As well, the demos will be recorded and will be available for a period of 4 weeks after the workshop is over. And we will have a private Facebook page so that we can post our work.
Location: Online through Zoom
Dates: October 14-16, 2021 From 10 am to12:30 pm, and from 1:00 to 3:30 pm. Mountain Time
