Online Workshop Description
The Painter’s Essential Landscape Online Acrylic Workshop - ONLINE
February 25-27, 2022 at 1:00 to 4:00 Eastern Time, by Zoom.
Conjure the spirit of the landscape in this innovative program. Discover secrets and strategies for interpreting and simplifying the landscape as you build your painting from the ground up with overlapping bands and interlocking shapes.
Learn negative painting strategies and the successful sequencing of opaque and transparent glazes for a luxurious patina and gentle glow in your work.
Explore brushwork techniques for creating textures and subtle transitions of delicate tints and muted hues. Learn how to layer lost and found edges to suggest windswept meadows and distant trees. Investigate how and where to use captured negatives and establish minimal hard edges to gradually bring your work into soft focus.
Whether you work on location, from your imagination or photos, you will be amazed by this elegant, alternative method of painting the landscape.
Our Workshop Program
Each of our three days together includes live Keynote presentations, paint- along exercises, a full video demonstration, personal painting time and live Q&A.
Linda will create a private webpage for the workshop where you will find reference photos, student handouts, specific supply lists and a bonus video. All of the main demonstrations will be posted on our webpage for 6 weeks following the workshop.
Here are some of the topics and lessons we will work on together:
- Seeing the landscape in a new, inspiring way.
- Translating what you see into a great painting plan.
- Simplified landscape design and dynamic stylizing.
- Landscape shape-making basics.
- Layering shapes to build any landscape.
- Creating expressive textures that paint the foreground for you!
- Working with paints and products for spectacular visual effects!
- Creating mood and atmosphere in your landscapes.
Join us and discover the joy of creating landscapes using negative painting techniques. This exciting, alternative approach may start you on the path to creating your best acrylic landscapes ever!
The Virtual Workshop Experience with Linda Kemp
- Linda has a business Zoom account that will provide an invitation link for each student.
- There will be a professional monitor for the workshop who will show the students how to effectively use the Zoom platform at the start of the first day. The monitor will control the waiting room, keep track of questions and mange any video and audio controls/troubles with the least disturbance to the workshop.
- Each day begins with a welcome and overview of the schedule and program. The students will know exactly how the day will unfold and the objectives.
- Students will receive handouts for the workshop by email or as download links.
- Linda will prepare the demonstrations ahead of time using professional quality recording equipment and editing. The videos are then compressed so that they will look their best on Zoom. The recorded demonstrations take the risk out of live demos struggles such as poor lighting, sound and output. Students will have a better-than-front row seat!
- The daily recorded video demonstrations will be posted to Linda's account on Vimeo. The workshop students will receive a private link so that they can watch for 30 days. These links are available only to the students in this workshop. Even if their internet is uncooperative on the day of the workshop, they will be able to watch the demonstration as often as they want and when their connection is good.
- Workshop lessons, teaching visuals, examples, product explanations, etc. are provided through a live Keynote presentation. Questions are monitored and answered live.
- Live Q & A time is scheduled throughout the program.
- Student painting time is part of the program. Students are welcome to check in for guidance during their painting time.
- Review and critique. At the end of each day there will be time for questions and concerns. Students may choose if and how they want to share their work. The simplest is to hold their paintings up to their camera but this is not always the best approach. For a higher quality review, they may upload a .jpg to Zoom or email a picture of their painting to the monitor, who will screen share for a critique. The instructions for this will be provided during the workshop.
- Students may wish to join a private Facebook group (Linda Kemp Workshops) to post their paintings and share with other students after the workshop.
The workshop demos will be recorded and available to students after the workshop is over.
