About The Instructor
Ontario artist John Lightfoot started in the creative field with a small studio producing graphic design, art direction and illustration for corporate clients. He has recently expanded into fine art painting.
“Painting for me is a visceral reaction to the constraints imposed by the commercial, digital world as a designer and illustrator. I want to immerse myself in colour, texture, and form, feeling the paint mixing and coming to life. In this way, I hope to apply some of myself to the canvas.
These works contain all of what I paint for, including interesting characters and their interactions. Bold colours, jewel-toned hues and dramatic light quality using techniques of back-painting, under-painting and complex layering of colour.

FROM DARKNESS INTO LIGHT is for artists with some painting experience and will immerse you in John's incredible depth of knowledge in the acrylic medium and his wonderful process of applying paint over dark underpainting. John's facscinating approach will inspire you and push you out of your comfort zone. John will share his processes through lectures and demos. Individual instruction and excellent critique will be included to help us expand and grow as artists.
This workshop will be held at the Novar Community Hall, a few minutes north of the town of Huntsville.
