BUILDING BLOCKS FOR EXCITING DESIGN - ONLINE WITH JEAN PEDERSON
About The Instructor
Jean Pederson is an accomplished and innovative artist, author and educator working in oil, watercolor, acrylic and mixed media. Layering her mediums and obscuring portions of subsequent layers has been a foundation of her painting process. Jean's subjects may vary. The core of each painting begins with an idea that is then interpreted through layers of paint, and mark making. Her work has been featured in many periodicals and she has authored two instructional books. Jean has also contributed to several of the Splash series and other books, and contributed as a guest blogger for the Artist Network. Ms. Pederson has received numerous awards nationally and internationally, her work is included in the Royal Collection in Windsor, England and the International Watercolor Museum in Fabriano, Italy as well as the Queens Diamond Jubilee Medal from the Canada Council of the Arts. |
Online Workshop Description
BUILDING BLOCKS FOR EXCITING DESIGN
March 15, 17, and 19, 2021 at 9:00 - Noon or 1:00 Mountain Time, by Zoom.
We can apply the content of the workshop to the medium of our choice. For all class exercises, we may want to use acrylic paint for ease of drying time and ease of alterations. This workshop will focus on building good composition both with representational and non-representational (abstract) subjects. We will discuss why a composition does and not does work, and participate in many exercises to practice critical thinking when evaluating our own art. The workshop will include discussions on style, elements and principles of design, divisions of space, balance, dominance, movement and opposition as they relate to painting. We will discuss traditional and non-traditional types of composition. Demos, individual instruction and class discussion as time allows. We may use your own reference material of photos and/or sketches for assignments.
The price of the workshop includes a free copy of Jean's Artist Pocket Guide. We will attend the Zoom session with Jean in the mornings, (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) and have the afternoon and the following day to paint. Jean will give feedback the next session and we will also have a private Facebook page to post our work. Also, we can book a private online critique of our work with Jean the week following the workshop. The price for this private critique will be $100 for at least a half hour, and needs to be booked separately either by choosing the PayPal option below or by registering on the Registrations Page.
