ZOOM - The Art Of grisaille: paint like the old masters
About The Instructor
HOLLY MCWILLIAMS is a multifaceted, creative artist that thrives on the idea of expression in her art - in whatever form that takes."I want to close in on that moment where nothing else matters but being present - that 'just breathe' moment… appreciating the beauty around me. That's why I love to paint, I'm really trying to capture the physical essence of what it is to be alive and feeling that energy... that is what really inspires me, in life and in art."
~Holly McWilliams
From the year 2000, Holly has been a professional artist, and an art educator. She is a gifted communicator and wanted to share her passion of the arts. She officially started her company, Indigo Arts, in 2005 with the goal to educate, inspire and make ART.

Workshop Description
THE ART OF GRISAILLE: PAINT A PORTRAIT LIKE THE OLD MASTERS
Dive into the timeless grisaille technique! Grisaille is a fascinating way to create depth, form, and drama using only neutral shades—just like the old masters did!
This class is for everyone - whether you’re a beginner, intermediate, or advanced oil painter, you’ll come away with new skills and a newfound confidence in your art.
In this workshop, we’ll be painting a version of Leonardo da Vinci’s "La Scapigliata" (Woman’s Head)—one of the most stunning and expressive portraits in art history. You’ll learn how to use light and shadow to create a beautifully sculpted effect in your paintings. You will learn the secrets of grisaille - why the masters loved it and how it improves your painting skills, as well as techniques for creating depth, contrast, and striking realism with a limited palette. You will also take away a deeper appreciation and understanding of classical art and its historical significance AND a finished painting to proudly display in your home!
Come paint, learn, and laugh as we explore the magic of this classic technique together!
This is a ZOOM workshop, which will start each day at 9:30 am Mountain Time and will run until NOON, for a total of 2.5 hours each day.
