About The Instructor
BRIAN BUCKRELL is a member of the Society of Canadian Artists and the Federation of Canadian Artists. He is also an elected member of the Ontario Society of Artists. He paints full time in acrylic and oil. His paintings are reflective of his love of the outdoors, travel, agriculture and rural communities and the more he paints the more his work moves towards abstracted impressions of his subjects. He has won numerous competitions and awards for both his studio and plein air paintings. His paintings have been featured in Arabella Magazine, South West Art Magazine and Plein Air Magazine’s Plein Air Today. He’s also featured in the North Light Books: The Best of Acrylic Painters, 2014, 2015 and 2016. Online Workshop Description
IT'S ALL ABOUT COMPOSITION
Strong composition creates visual impact and interest in our work. Yet, for many developing artists, the concept of composition is confusing. At its most basic, it is the arrangement of shapes intended to allow the viewer entry, direct their view to a spot of interest and hold their attention. This requires competency in linear and aerial perspectives. Effective perspective requires competency in drawing, values and colour.
Our format for this workshop is fantastic! It will occur over two weekends, with two weeks between each weekend-session of lessons to allow time for assignments and feedback. Our two weekends (4-sessions in total) on Zoom will focus on the fundamentals required – leading to a more effective understanding of composition to attract, direct and hold the viewer. Each Zoom session will be four hours long, and will include presentations, demos and paint-along opportunities. In addition, notes will be sent, and sessions will be recorded for repeat viewing. Participants are encouraged to join a dedicated Facebook Group for sharing discussion and critiquing between sessions and for an additional week following the last Sunday. LOTS of learning and LOTS of fun!
