About The Instructor
BLU SMITH, BFA, completed his bachelor of fine arts at the University of Victoria in 1993, where he lives and works with his wife and growing young family. His mature style as an abstract painter began as an exercise to free himself from the technical restraints of realism. Non representational abstract became a creatively freeing direction that evolved into his unique voice as an artist. "My work has a strong base in color and composition. My pieces are constructed or built as if bricks and mortar in a building. Every painting is a building block in the foundation of what will come next". He is represented by galleries internationally. www.blusmithgallery.com

Workshop Description
ABSTRACTION in acrylic and watercolor is for experienced beginner to intermediate level artist, and is open to those who have no background in abstracts, just a desire to learn. This workshop will focus on developing a visual abstract language and creating a framework to build exciting and expressive abstract works. As in all painting, the basic building blocks are just as important in this art form. Through demos and exercises, we will explore and apply color, composition, line work, light and texture. An emphasis on developing each student’s unique approach will be nurtured through experimentation and proven techniques as we increase our understanding of abstraction. Includes demos, exercises and individual attention.
